Queen Elizabeth I - English Matryoshka

Queen Elizabeth I - English Matryoshka

Hello and Happy Mother's Day! I have been busy working on my latest Matryoshka drawing from my list of suggestions and just completed her this morning (and listed her in my shop). She is my first redhead! The suggestion was "English" and after conducting a poll on facebook I chose Queen Elizabeth I to represent England. Because she is royalty, I tried to infuse the illustration with ethereal qualities. I've learned a few new techniques drawing the lace and feathers that I am very excited about. I may have to draw other ethereal female images. Let me know if you think of any you would like to see! :)

This is my original rough sketch for the illustration:

Queen Elizabeth I - pencil sketch
Please keep in mind this is a rough sketch, drawn one morning before the sun rose, in a dimly lit room, with a lead and eraser challenged pencil. I really need to stock up on new pencils and erasers. ;)

You have outdone yourself my friend! This is FABULOUS!!! (and as a member of the British Commonwealth I believe my opinion carries some weight... :-)
You have opened up a whole new area to explore with your wonderful matryoshkas. Congratulations!

What a neat idea, Amy! I think you did a wonderful job creating a likeness of Queen Elizabeth I. How cool that you made a successful attempt at an actual historical figure! I'm completely intrigued by this concept and would love to see more like it. Perhaps Cleopatra, Joan or Arc or Abigail Adams would be fun to take on.

Thank you Holly! I have been concentrating on drawing one traditional dress per nationality/culture but when I came to English I decided to go off on a tangent and draw a Royal. I do have Egyptian on my list of suggestions and you are right Cleopatra would be perfect!! As would Joan of Arc for French and Abigail Adams for American! You are an excellent source for suggestions. Thank you so much!! :)

Hi Amy! I am so happy that you stopped by to visit me and that you are happy that I included your work! I just love it! How funny - I almost put Queen Elizabeth in too. She is fantastic.

Talk soon, Stephie x

PS They also make storage containers which are very cute. Then you would have a complete set!
